Parents It’s A Balancing Act!

Parents, remember as kids how we used to stand on one foot to see how long we could keep our balance? Keeping our balance for any amount of time back then wasn’t easy. It isn’t easy today either, huh? But we do the best we can in keeping that balance in our lives today, don’t we?

Want to hear something ironic? Sometimes, today as parents, we not only have to try to succeed at the challenge of keeping our balance in our daily lives but believe it or not, we also have to sometimes do the even more difficult task of getting a little out of balance. We do this on purpose and then get back into balance on purpose. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?

As parents, it’s normal to feel many stressors in our lives. One way of looking at stressors is as another thing that puts us out of whack. A different way to look at it is to relax and realize that whatever it is that is stressing us out; it’s usually not a life or death matter. So, let’s all take a breath and allow ourselves to feel a small sense of relief with our new perception. Things are going to work themselves somehow out.

However, what if the stressor that we are facing really is a big deal? Well, as I said earlier sometimes, we have to get a little out of balance to get back into balance. Thankfully, this isn’t going to happen too often. When it does happen, we will use our parenting super-powers to deal with it until we are successful. Furthermore, we’ll try also to remember what my grandma always told me, “This too shall pass.”

Now, as my Granddaddy always said, “Go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us.” The balancing act can sometimes be tricky for us parents, but I know we can do it, and come out better on the other end for it. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do…
